Mongolia is known for producing some of the rarest and highest quality cashmere. This is because sub-zero temperatures, dry, long winters and hot summers create a harsh environment that stimulates the growth of an ultra-fine undercoat in the Cashmere goats, resulting in soft and luxurious cashmere. Temperature fluctuations in winter often reach -40°C (-40°F), which forces the Cashmere goats to develop a denser and finer undercoat.

Mongolian cashmere is often marketed as more artisanal or traditional, highlighting the nomadic herding practices and sustainable, ecological methods used by Mongolian herders. It generally carries a higher value due to its superior quality and lower production volumes. Fiber length and density:

Mongolian cashmere has longer fibers, which contribute to its durability and softness. The fibers tend to be longer, typically 30-40 mm or more, which improves durability and pilling resistance.

Fiber diameter:

Generally, Mongolian cashmere has a fiber diameter ranging from 14 to 16 microns.

• Cashmere requires gentle handling to maintain its softness and shape long-term.
• Hand washing is recommended. Lukewarm water temperature, max. 30 °C. Use a mild detergent designed for wool/cashmere.

Procedure:

1. Turn the item inside out and soak in lukewarm water with a mild detergent.
2. Gently squeeze the fabric without twisting; rinse with cold water until clean.
3. Squeeze gently and press out excess moisture (do not wring). Lay flat on an absorbent towel and allow to dry horizontally, away from direct sunlight and heat.

To maintain the shape and softness of the material long-term:

• Prefer hand washing; a washing machine (even on a delicate cycle) can damage the fiber structure.
• Avoid strong wringing or twisting.
• Always dry the item horizontally; avoid hanging on a hanger.
